Chandeliers have come into existence a long time back. It is said that it existed in 1460. Earlier it was nothing but a lamp supporter that hung from a hook. It had dim candles on it. It was moreover a source of light but as time has passed, it has undergone brilliant changes. In the medieval period people from royal family were only able to afford it, as it was made and designed by handcrafted by artisans and this made it unaffordable for the masses but as time went by, people from all societal sections were able to lay their hand on one. 

Chandeliers were earlier made of wood, and then slowly it was made available in the form of different metals and then glass crystal, and so on. This transformation took a lot of time. Also the chandeliers were using gas to lighten up, but slowly this too changed with the emergence of light in the 19th century. Today they are multipurpose. Not only do they provide light but also beauty that they add to a person’s home. This has been the crucial reason for its rise in demand, ever since it came into existence.  If you are someone who loves ancient type of chandeliers, then there are a lot of such types available on the Internet. Many people state that they sell antiques as old from 18th or 19th century. If you are getting one set at your residence, see to it that you have done enough research on chandeliers and its price, to know about its history so you know what to expect from it. 

Earlier it was affordable only to kings, or people from royal families. They were placed in the king’s court, fort, and palaces. It was like a prestige asset, not everyone could afford it, and only the likes of royal were able to get them made and fit. People from lower society were mere spectators, as they had to make do with lamps. As for the prestigious people it was just status to own one. Today you will find a lot of chandeliers that are antique. Yes, they do cost a lot, but they are certainly made with a lot of care. Surely anything that is antique will cost a lot. You will get some replicated ones for a much cheaper price but rest assured, they are going to provide for an appealing atmosphere. 
Antique chandeliers use gas, or kerosene. This might make your chandelier look time tainted or off-colour. This means that you will have to take a lot of care in maintaining one.
