Teaching kids about domain names

When teaching kids about domain names and their funtionalities and features, it is improtant for them to first establish the fact that there is a difference between a Uniform Resource Locator and a domain name. Teaching kids about domain names should also explaining to them that the IP address and the server name are interchangeable, completely. Kids need to be taught that:

* In most Internet services, the server has no way to know whether the URL or domain name was used!

This is offered on a priority and first come first served basis. They need to know as part of the fundamentals that in the case of generic or commonly used names, the process may sometimes lead to the entering of a misspelt or inaccurate domain name that that could easily direct the whole intent in another direction. Children need to be taught the repercussions of entering a domain name which is inaccurate or misleading. They should also be aware of the problem that arises with regard to the control of domain names for a particular product or service that is generic in nature.
