Teaching kids about search engine marketing

Search engine marketing is basically a form of marketing, but instead of it being the traditional sort of marketing it is based on marketing done through the internet.  It is marketing that increases the visibility of a website so that it can be found easily by a search engine, thus promoting the website up the rankings.

There are nine steps to consider when teaching children about search engine marketing, these are; market research, keyword research, on page optimisation, site structure, link building, brand building, viral marketing, adjusting , and keeping up to date with what is happening in the market.

Usually all business that have a website on the internet have had some sort of search engine marketing done on behalf of their company.  So teaching kids about search engine marketing is a really useful tool for them.  It is the big ‘in thing’ the internet now, most people have access to the internet and the government are pushing for every child to have the internet at home.  At present there are 1.4 million school age children who do not have access to the internet.  When the government ploughs money into this cause, it is likely that these children will have more knowledge about computers than any of us adults have now.

Search engine optimisation is the way forward for business owners who need there company to come in at number one on the search engine rankings.  It is thought that around 91 percent of internet users go through a search engine to find the information that they are looking for.  Although search engine marketing and online marketing is considered complicated, it is thought that children would pick up the art of this much faster than an adult, as children have a faster learning capacity.

Teaching a child about search engine marketing though would have to be made easy, so that they could understand it.  The steps as listed above should be written in a way that a child could understand the technical information and jargon should be put in at a later date once the child has grasped the art form of search engine optimisation.  Once the child has completed the task of optimising one website, then others should follow.  It is important to note that the child should at this stage start taking in more of the technical information needed, but with the hands on experience already achieved this next step should fall into place easily.

If you were to put a child in a room with an adult, both of whom who no nothing about search engine marketing, you would probably find that the child picked up the knowledge far faster than the adult.

Teaching children about search engine marketing and online marketing (SEM marketing), is definitely the way forward, internet is king and as time progresses it is thought that most aspects of trade, learning and life will revolve around the internet.  Knowledge is power and teaching kids about search engine marketing is the way forward.
