Teaching Law
The Association of American Law Schools has a hiring conference every year. This is one place you need to registered. There is a job registry which you can ask your name to be applied to. Filling out a one page resume, on line, will ensure it is included in the mailings sent out throughout the year to various law schools. The hiring conference is usually scheduled later in the year. However, the binders can be accessed and potential candidates can be chosen for interviews.
There are a few things you can do to be noticed if you are a lawyer (Rechtsanwalt) who is wanting to teach law. One of the first things is to prove you are interested in following a scholarly career. This can be done with writing. By publishing a good article in a law review you can gain exposure. People will take note of your abilities. This can get you noticed by those who could potential offer you a teaching position in one of the law schools. Not any paper will do. It must show your abilities, your seriousness about your career, and your dedication to your degree.
Befriending faculty members helps as well. Building a rapport with the teachers who are already on staff can leave doors open for future placement. By having the right friends in the right environment, you can gain notability. Even if you had not thought of a teaching career when you started to become an attorney, things change. When you can go back to the school with confidence because of relationships built in the past, it does help in many ways. Should that school ever be in need of a teacher and you are on the job registry, there is someone who can write a letter of recommendation. Word of mouth carries a lot of clout when schools are making decisions for open positions.
